The use of WhatsApp in the educational field is essential in the teaching-learning process of students, because it was chosen as an alternative educational tool by teachers to carry out the development of activities and academic monitoring of students. The main objective is to identify the usefulness of WhatsApp in the development of activities and academic monitoring as a communication strategy of the teaching-learning process in LIEMAV students. This research is quantitative with a non-experimental research approach, executed in two phases. As a result, it was possible to determine that 99% of the students of the Bachelor of Computer Science give an academic use to WhatsApp, thus allowing them to perform effectively in their academic tasks, in addition to identifying the usefulness and limitations of this tool. in group activities. In conclusion, this research obtained satisfactory results in relation to the use of WhatsApp as a tool for the development of activities and academic monitoring, this project can be applied in other programs of the University, in order to know the use of this tool for academic purposes
