Sanitation corresponds to a basic need of any individual, which conditions their quality of life, because it has significant environmental, economic and health impacts. Similarly, rural areas are affected by disparities between the coverage of these services, further exacerbating the situation in these territories. Colombia presents a marked difference between these two sectors, which is why carrying out a correlative analysis at the departmental level, in this case for the department of Córdoba that relates the rural population and sanitation (solid waste collection -0.937, sewerage -0.866, inadequate disposal of excreta 0.422 and access to improved water source 0.477) is a necessary action for the contextualization of information as well as presenting alternatives such as artificial wetlands that are nature-based solutions focused on international standards that adjust to the conditions of these areas and lead to the fulfillment of the sustainable development goals.
