To answer this question, it is necessary to clarify the concept of leadership and how this concept has changed over the years. This phenomenon has had great transcendence but so far, no precise definition has been obtained, therefore there are several opinions that have been taken as references to build a concept. A statement that helps us to get closer to the meaning of leadership is that Daft (2008) has stated, “Leadership occurs among people; it is not something done to people” (p.5). We can define leadership as a relationship between a person who leads and another who follows with a common purpose; these are features that become indispensable for leadership to exist. This statement will focus on teacher leadership. The rest of this statement consists of our assumptions about leadership empowerment and implications for the future, and conclusions.Publicación Acceso abierto A personal leadership statement(2023-07-14) Pérez Varilla, Natalia; González Monsalve, Harold; Isaza Blanco, Andrés; Aguas Castillo, Pedro PabloA personal leadership statement. Fostering leadership in schools is a very important and productive process for all members of the educational community, especially for teachers and students, because a teacher-leader will know how to guide the educational processes in order to implement leadership by showing their learners the importance of this in all walks of life. Thus, in this article, we will provide several concepts of leadership, including our assumptions, collaborative work, leadership empowerment, and implications for the future of our teaching work to encourage our students to be leaders. Our goal is to develop leadership strategies so that as future educators we can carry out innovative projects that implement and strengthen teamwork so that they inspire our students to be leaders too.Publicación Acceso abierto Lifelong professional development: empowering foreign language teachers(2023-02-19) Argel Marquez, Zuleima; Narvaez Hernandez, Eliana Judith; Aguas Castillo, PedroCurrent and future teachers like us and in general all the subjects involved in the challenging world of education need to keep in mind the essential role of leadership skills and their empowerment not only in teachers but also in the students. We assume collaborative work as a key strategy to achieve real leadership skills given its high relevance to developing social and cognitive skills that reinforce the acquisition of leadership skills. This paper basically attempts to follow Matshediso’s (2008) statement which focuses mainly on teachers leadership and the way how professional training help to enhance this ability not only in teachers but also in the rest of actors involved in the process, especially the students in early cognitive stages(from birth to 9). It also provides personal assumptions about the topic and finally exposes the main implications of leadership empowerment for future teachers. Following this line, the present paper works essentially around these basic questions: 1) Why is it important to be more than a teacher - to be a leader for our students? 2) How do teacher leaders include diversity in their teaching practices? 3) How can teachers as leaders improve themselves?Publicación Acceso abierto Mini atletismo: Una herramienta para la mejora de la competencia motriz y el trabajo colaborativo de los estudiantes de 5º grado(2023-06-30) Cardozo Paternina, Jorge Armando; Llorente Hernández, Edgar LuisThe problem of traditional physical education, which focuses mainly on conventional sports and is limited due to the reduction of time and resources in schools, is raised. It is recognized that physical education is not only about sports, but also includes the social and intellectual development of children. The lack of specialized physical education teachers in primary education further limits the development of this discipline at an early age. To address this problem, it is proposed to implement the program "Athletics for Kids - IAAF" as an alternative to promote the development of motor skills and collaborative work in fifth grade students of the Rafael Núñez Educational Institution. It justifies the importance of providing experiences in the practice of athletics to promote cognitive development, improve strategies for the implementation of physical education lesson plans and comply with the competencies proposed by the Ministry of National Education. Background and conceptual references that support the importance of motor competence, school physical education, school sports and sports practice in the integral development of students are mentioned. Studies that highlight the importance of structured programs of sports initiation and collaborative work in the teaching of athletics in early stages are mentioned. The research proposal is framed in a critical-social paradigm and uses a qualitative methodology of practical action research. A learning unit focused on athletics and playful games is proposed to strengthen motor skills and foster collaborative work in students. The intervention implemented in the Rafael Núñez Educational Institution showed significant results, with students interested and engaged in the proposed activities, progressing in athletic and motor skills, and promoting inclusion and active participation of all. In conclusion, the "Athletics for Kids - IAAF" program had a positive impact on the development of motor skills and collaborative work of fifth grade students. This proposal seeks to improve physical education in elementary education, promoting the integral development of students and highlighting the physical, social and emotional benefits of athletics. Publicación Acceso abierto A Personal Leadership Statement(Universidad de Córdoba, 2023-12-21) Ayala López, Ana Milena; Machado Pérez, Sebastián; Polo Romero, Madiezdic Eugenia; Aguas Castillo, Pedro PabloCurrently, secondary education institutions recognize the need to improve educational quality, one of them is to enhance the reading comprehension of students to increase their communication skills, particularly in a foreign language such as English. However, this does not occur in all school contexts, as is the case of the educational institution INEM "Lorenzo María Lleras" in Monteria-Colombia where this research was carried out with the objective of implementing a didactic strategy of collaborative work that allows the development of computational thinking through the application of a collaborative work strategy mediated by the Micro:bit tool with Makecode in ninth grade students. For this purpose, a qualitative methodology was used with an action-research approach that allows the analysis of classroom practices and the application of techniques and resources aimed at improving the training process. The results indicate that the skills of computational thinking, problem solving, critical, logical and mathematical analysis presented improvements, this is attributed to the collaborative work strategy mediated by Micro:bit that proposed roles for the students. In conclusion, ICTmediated collaborative work strengthens computational thinking, participation and improves communication skills, which are necessary for solving complex problems. In addition, it fosters creativity and critical thinking, allowing team members to contribute different perspectives and skills to reach a joint solution.
