Resumen en inglés
The problem of traditional physical education, which focuses mainly on conventional sports and is limited due to the reduction of time and resources in schools, is raised. It is recognized that physical education is not only about sports, but also includes the social and intellectual development of children. The lack of specialized physical education teachers in primary education further limits the development of this discipline at an early age. To address this problem, it is proposed to implement the program "Athletics for Kids - IAAF" as an alternative to promote the development of motor skills and collaborative work in fifth grade students of the Rafael Núñez Educational Institution. It justifies the importance of providing experiences in the practice of athletics to promote cognitive development, improve strategies for the implementation of physical education lesson plans and comply with the competencies proposed by the Ministry of National Education. Background and conceptual references that support the importance of motor competence, school physical education, school sports and sports practice in the integral development of students are mentioned. Studies that highlight the importance of structured programs of sports initiation and collaborative work in the teaching of athletics in early stages are mentioned. The research proposal is framed in a critical-social paradigm and uses a qualitative methodology of practical action research. A learning unit focused on athletics and playful games is proposed to strengthen motor skills and foster collaborative work in students. The intervention implemented in the Rafael Núñez Educational Institution showed significant results, with students interested and engaged in the proposed activities, progressing in athletic and motor skills, and promoting inclusion and active participation of all. In conclusion, the "Athletics for Kids - IAAF" program had a positive impact on the development of motor skills and collaborative work of fifth grade students. This proposal seeks to improve physical education in elementary education, promoting the integral development of students and highlighting the physical, social and emotional benefits of athletics.
