Resumen en inglés
The comprehensive development of adolescents is related to physical, mental and social factors; influenced by several aspects, such as food safety which is highlighted as essential to guarantee an optimal nutritional status. Objective: to determine the degree of association between food insecurity and nutritional status in adolescent students from schools in the rural area of the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, Córdoba-Colombia. Materials and methods: cross-sectional descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 391 students from a population of 938 existing in schools in the study area. For the sociodemographic assessment of the families, a survey was applied: Latin American and Caribbean Food Security Scale (ELCSA), adjusted to resolution 2465 of 2016 of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection. For the evaluation of the nutritional status of adolescents, the Body Mass Index (BMI) was determined. The information was analyzed by descriptive analysis of the qualitative and quantitative variables. The tStudent test was used to compare the groups under study, Fisher's statistical analysis to measure the association of variables, and the Shapiro-Wilk and Bartlett tests to establish the normality of the data and equality of variances. Results: 225 (57.5%) families showed severe food insecurity, 119 (30.4%) moderate, 43 (11%) mild and only 4 (1%) adequate.
