Objective. Evaluate the self-care index in adults with hypertension enrolled in the Control Program in a Social Enterprise of the State of Monteria-Córdoba. Methodology. Descriptive cross-sectional descriptive study. A sample of 368 adults with arterial hypertension was taken from the total population (N = 8,663). The Self-Care of Hypertension Inventory instrument was applied in its Spanish version. Data were analyzed according to descriptive statistics. Throughout the study, the ethical criteria of research in human beings were fulfilled. Results The average self-care index score was low for both self-care maintenance [Average 57: DE 11] and for self-care monitoring [Average 45: DE 11]. The actions that influenced the low score in the maintenance of self-care were exercise and diet and in the management of self-care with the recognition of symptoms. Conclusion. In most of the participants, the self-care index was below the average score (<70), both in maintenance (87%) and in self-care monitoring (90%).
