dc.description.abstract | La babesiosis bovina, una enfermedad transmitida por garrapatas del género Rhipicephalus y causada por protozoos del género Babesia (Babesia bovis y Babesia bigemina), representa un problema significativo para la ganadería en Colombia. Su impacto se refleja en pérdidas económicas relacionadas con la disminución de la producción de carne y leche, así como en costos asociados con tratamientos y medidas de control. En el contexto colombiano, las regiones tropicales y subtropicales son las más afectadas debido a las condiciones climáticas favorables para la proliferación del vector. Factores como la raza, la edad y el manejo del ganado, junto con la presencia de climas cálidos y húmedos, influyen en la epidemiología de la enfermedad. El diagnóstico molecular, especialmente a través de técnicas como la PCR, ha demostrado ser eficaz para detectar infecciones subclínicas en portadores asintomáticos, facilitando la implementación de estrategias de control más precisas. Entre las medidas de prevención destacan el manejo integrado de garrapatas, la introducción de razas resistentes y la vacunación. Este trabajo de investigación busca analizar la situación actual de la babesiosis bovina en Colombia, evaluando los avances en diagnóstico, control y manejo de la enfermedad, con el fin de proponer estrategias más efectivas para su mitigación en diferentes regiones del país. | spa |
dc.description.abstract | Bovine babesiosis, a tick-borne disease of the genus Rhipicephalus and caused by protozoa of the genus Babesia (Babesia bovis and Babesia bigemina), represents a significant problem for livestock farming in Colombia. Its impact is reflected in economic losses related to the decrease in meat and milk production, as well as in costs associated with treatments and control measures. In the Colombian context, tropical and subtropical regions are the most affected due to the favorable climatic conditions for the proliferation of the vector. Factors such as breed, age, and livestock management, along with the presence of hot and humid climates, influence the epidemiology of the disease. Molecular diagnosis, especially through techniques such as PCR, has proven to be effective in detecting subclinical infections in asymptomatic carriers, facilitating the implementation of more precise control strategies. Prevention measures include integrated tick management, the introduction of resistant breeds and vaccination. This research work seeks to analyze the current situation of bovine babesiosis in Colombia, evaluating the advances in diagnosis, control and management of the disease, in order to propose more effective strategies for its mitigation in different regions of the country. | eng |
