Publicación Acceso abierto Using corrective feedback for error correction in oral communication skills(2021-09-14) Regino Cárdenas, Nohelia; Perez Polo, Samira Sofia; Lorduy Arellano, Danilsa del CarmenCorrective feedback (CF) constitutes an opportunity for teachers to work on students´ errors and mistakes during oral communication activities since it provides the correct strategies. This study sought to explore the use of corrective feedback strategies for correcting 9th graders’ errors in oral communication in EFL classes at a secondary public school in Montería, Córdoba. Data was collected through direct observation, a teacher diary, a stimulated recall, and a semi-structured interview. The results revealed that the teacher used repetition to boost self-correction and peer-correction rather than recast and clarification requests which were also used during three online meetings; This study suggests that the effectiveness of CF will depend on the teachers’ knowledge and consciousness about the different techniques that can be implemented when providing feedback and the learners’ uptakes to each one of them.Publicación Acceso abierto Internship at saber pro examination english module preparation course(2021-09-15) Ayazo Gómez, Linda Lucía; Racero Diz, José MaríaThe current report explains the development of an internship carried out across the Saber Pro Examination English module preparation course, at Universidad de Cordoba within students of 7th, 8th and 9th semester from different undergraduate programs. The report also describes the experiences interns have during the preparation course development. The internship aims to goal the increasement of students’ performance levels obtained in the National Board Examination, throughout the implementation of Reading Comprehension strategies and Vocabulary acquisition techniques. The learning approaches whereby the content is going to be taught, are clearly specified as E-Learning and Flipped Learning, which through the development of synchronic and anachronic sessions, served as a base for instructing students about the English Module patterns and the contents explanations. The use of technological tools which let teachers create innovative content presentations and assign activities are a fundamental part to consider inside the internship process. Finally, it contains the most significant finding interns arrived after having implemented the preparation course. The interns’ deeper explanations of the experience they had during the course are reported, in order to demonstrate interns ‘professional and personal growth. Besides some conclusions, regarding the process findings, are stablished. In addition, recommendations and suggestions for future interns are given as well as the description of the limitations and challenges interns had once the preparation course ended.Publicación Acceso abierto Saber pro examination english module preparation course(2021-09-24) Gómez Peñata, Víctor Miguel; Racero Diz, José MaríaThis internship was conducted in Universidad de Córdoba in Montería. The purpose of this report is to highlight my experience in the internship process at the Saber Pro course and remark how these helped to significantly enhance my personal and professional growth as well as my perceptions on the internship once it concluded. The Universidad de Córdoba offers its students the opportunity of implementing their teaching skills in the Saber Pro course whose main purpose is to prepare undergraduate students to take the Saber Pro tests to improve their possibilities of getting outstanding scores, but this is not the only reason why students choose to do an internship but also to gain more experience in the fi eld with the purpose of becoming better English teachers. Moreover, in this piece of writing, I aim to explain the pedagogies of E-learning, Gamification, and Task-Based Language Teaching (TBL). The purpose of this phenomenological research was to explore the perceptions of three foreign language teachers in a specific public university in Colombia during Covid-19 pandemic times. This study involves the five steps of Giorgi's method for phenomenological analysis. The data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and a reflective diary. Five themes emerged from the data: 1) Awareness of the need to respond to unexpectedness in teaching, 2)The face of loneliness in the classroom, 3) The despair at not being able to play a pedagogical role, 4) The goodness of practice within an unusual teaching reality, and 5) The longing for change in education. Many people have defined it, fixing it to their necessities and taking into account the environment in which their leadership is developed; however, the term does not have an exact meaning yet. This paper gives an original and different point of view and understanding of what leadership is. Also, the assumptions that teacher leaders face, empowerment, and future implications for current practices are addressed. In this statement, we report on studies where authors defined the concept of leadership empowerment that can be applied to us as future teacher leaders. This paper describes a personal leadership statement rooted in authentic leadership theory at the University of Cordoba. The plan is to complete successfully and to provide an example for future personal leadership statements. In this sense, the plan prepares future teacher leaders to incorporate the principles of leadership and empowerment into their leadership programs as they apply them in specific academic settings. Thus, in this paper, we will detail some of our understanding of the different concepts of leadership, their focus on education, our assumptions, the qualities of empowerment, and our plan to motivate students to be leaders in our future practices. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe the perceptions of a teacher of English concerning his experience to generate motivation in his demotivated students. The study employed Colazzi’s seven-steps method of phenomenological analysis. The researchers collected the data through semi-structured interviews following Seidman’s model and also using reflective diaries. Four themes emerged from the data: (a) being a father and a psychologist in the classroom, (b) a sense of mixed feelings, (c) a struggle for fulfilling a pedagogical role, and (d) Students-centeredness and integratedness in foreign language education.
