Enhancing writing skills in 11th graders using R2l and gamification
(2020-12-02) Muñoz Peinado, Ronny Samir; Romero, Yanilis
This paper describes the internship, which was carried out at the educational institution Victoria Manzur, located south of Monteria city. It was carried out with the 11th graders of this place in a the completely virtual way during an academic semester, throughout this process three main steps were developed, the first one was to diagnose the level of literacy that the students had at the beginning of the process, the second one was working with them using the Reading to learn approach to improve their levels of literacy, the third one, was to find results that showed a significant change in the literacy of 11th-grade students. This process faced many pitfalls, especially because this internship was developed virtually in an unexpected way due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused the students to start classes with little technological tools to work comfortably and learn in a better way. Regardless of the difficulties, all these events were part great experiences that enriched the teaching experience, which will be immensely valuable for future projects. Working with youngsters in a new reality for teachers promotes reflection about how challenging can be fulfilling the goal of teaching a foreign language such as English when teaching virtually.

Fostering oral production and global citizenship education through a multimodal teaching approach in elementary learners
(2023-07-14) Vega Salgado, Danelia María; Romero, Yanilis
This degree work reports my internship experience with elementary level students of the Bilingualism for Peace program, carried out at the educational institution Aguas Negras. I highlight the importance of the Multimodal Teaching Approach I used in the design of lesson plans, activities, materials and strategies, taking into account the VARK modalities. This approach allowed me to foster Oral Production in students as well as the practice of the components of this skill. In addition, I promoted a Global Citizenship Education in order to form critical students, capable of putting into action positive values and making decisions for the benefit of society. During this internship, I was able to demonstrate my pedagogical style and effort by using my skills and prior knowledge to promote meaningful and recreational learning environments. In this paper, I address a variety of aspects, including the professional, students, and personal gains I achieved during the internship. I also share the conclusions I came to, the challenging situations I faced, and the recommendations I have for students of the foreign language program with emphasis on English who are considering an internship as a degree option.

Internship at public school: teaching vocabulary to preschoolers through a play-based learning approach
(2022-07-30) Álvarez Rojas, Angie Sofía; Romero, Yanilis
In Colombia, the government promotes the teaching and learning of foreign languages from primary education, although not in preschool education. As a result, there is a gap in learning a foreign language since children get enrolled in the education system. Nevertheless, early childhood education provides environments to train students around integral education promoting different dimensions of development and competencies, such as language acquisition and soft skills. Thus, this paper describes my experience during my internship with preschool students at Antonia Santos school in Monteria, Cordoba. As part of my internship, I applied a play-based learning approach with the help of videos to expand vocabulary in preschool students. Furthermore, this paper presents the findings and gains related to my students' growth, my personal improvements, and my professional advancement.

Promoting multiple intelligences in the english language classroom through the multisensory approach
(2023-02-20) Herrera Yanez, Sandra Paola; Romero, Yanilis; Romero, Yanilis
This paper describes the experience of the research internship in the teaching of English as a foreign language in a public school in Montería. The purpose of this was to establish the findings after having used the multisensory approach as a way to encourage and improve the different types of intelligence and develop effective learning of the English language in the preschool students of the Antonia Santos school. To achieve this, several lessons were designed taking into account different pedagogies (Multisensory Approach, Theory of Multiple Intelligences) to support the methodology and activities developed in the process during the internship. Consequently, three main results can be reported. In the first place, the students demonstrated through their performance and participation which way it was easier for them to learn. Secondly, it was evidenced due to the interest of the students in the use of multisensory activities that the different types of intelligence identified were highly encouraged. Thirdly, the performance results obtained at the end of the process accounted for the significant improvement in the types of intelligence in the students. All this significantly helped the effective learning that the students had regarding the learning of the English language.

The use of a multisensory approach to promote reading in english in a child with dyslexia
(Universidad de Córdoba, 2024-09-04) Mass Villadiego, Marlys Yaneth; Valle Zapata, Liliana; Romero, Yanilis; Lorduy, Danilsa
Dyslexia has become a frequent condition that teachers face in classroom settings. However, in public schools, it seems to be more difficult because of the lack of teacher training. As a consequence, some teachers struggle every day in mainstream schools with dyslexic students without the appropriate knowledge to teach them. In this sense, this study describes how teachers deal with this disability when teaching reading in English. The main objective of this qualitative study is to explore how an English teacher accommodates his/her teaching of reading in English to a child with dyslexia, and how multisensory activities could facilitate that process. This case study sample is a sixteen-year-old student diagnosed with dyslexia and a secondary English teacher. Data was collected through observations, interviews, stimulated recalls, and multisensory activities over one scholarly term, this data was analyzed by carrying out a thematic analysis. Findings showed that the use of multisensory activities not only helped dyslexic students overcome difficulties in reading but also increased their motivation towards English classes. Also, the teacher’s role is pivotal when preparing and accommodating his classes taking into account the student’s needs by using multisensory activities. This study supports teachers providing them with the opportunity to explore the use of a multisensory approach for teaching reading in English to dyslexic students.
