| spa |
dc.description.abstract | A 14-year-old unsterilized canine patient presented for consultation at the Master Vet Medical Specialties Center in the city of Barranquilla (Colombia) due to bleeding in the nail area of the first finger of the left forelimb. The patient had nail tissue removed and received analgesic and antibiotic therapy. Three months later, the patient returned to the clinic due to inflammation of the same finger with abnormal growth of the nail that had been removed, the tissue was deformed, in a state of decomposition with desquamation, dryness, brittle, the nail bed was inflamed, hairless, with serosanguineous discharge and had mild claudication. X-rays of the metacarpophalangeal area are taken with comparative latero-medial and anteroposterior views of both thoracic limbs, finding periosteal reaction in the distal, medial and proximal phalanges with cortical destruction in the medial and distal phalanges of the first finger of the left anterior limb. Subsequently, a digital amputation was performed, which was evaluated histopathologically, resulting in Squamous Cell Carcinoma; Until date, it was not necessary to perform treatment after surgical resection since there were no residuals or metastases. Digital amputation is one of the main treatment options recommended in these cases. | eng |
