dc.description.abstract | La industria hotelera ha presentado un crecimiento exponencial a lo largo de las últimas décadas, posicionándose junto con el turismo entre las industrias más importantes de la economía mundial. Sin embargo, con el tiempo se ha presentado un aumento en los costos de los recursos y en los impactos ambientales de las actividades, que pueden afectar los ingresos, el desempeño ambiental y la imagen pública del sector hotelero. En el sector, como respuesta a las crecientes preocupaciones del público sobre la sostenibilidad ambiental, se han adoptado diversas estrategias ambientales que buscan minimizar los impactos ambientales generados. Al revisar y comparar las herramientas existentes para medir el desempeño ambiental en el sector hotelero, se encontró que estas, generalmente no integran el aspecto económico en la evaluación. En este estudio se diseñó una herramienta analítica para medir el desempeño ambiental en el sector hotelero, basada en la herramienta EPIP (Environmental Performance of Industrial Processes). La herramienta diseñada, tiene en cuenta un balance de costos del uso del agua, la energía, y los materiales del hotel, así como los impactos ambientales asociados a estas variables. Esta herramienta proporciona una clasificación de los aspectos ambientales con el peor desempeño ambiental, calculando un costo equivalente producto de las características económicas y ambientales de cada aspecto involucrado en los procesos de un hotel. A partir de esta clasificación, se pueden tomar decisiones de mejora que apunten a una sostenibilidad integral. | spa |
