Publicación Acceso abierto Implementing cbi lessons to develop 9 th grade students’ reading comprehension skills(Universidad de Córdoba, 2023-12-14) Alba Acosta, José Manuel de; Lorduy Arellano, Danilza; Valle Zapata, Liliana Beatriz; Jerez Rodríguez, Sonia María; Herrera Naranjo, Sol JashmedEng: This Action Case Study implemented a Content-Based Instruction (CBI) approach to enhance the reading comprehension skills of ninth-grade students in a Colombian public school. The focus was on health-themed lessons, assessing their impact on literal, inferential, and critical reading skills with lengthy informative texts. Qualitative methods, including a diagnostic test, researcher observations, and the researcher journal, were employed over few weeks. Results showed improved comprehension and expanded health vocabulary through discussions and posters. However, challenges persisted in fully summarizing main ideas, emphasizing the need for enhanced strategic processing. The study highlights the effectiveness of CBI in bolstering reading skills, shedding light on areas for further improvement in strategic processing to enhance working memory and information retention. Spa: Este estudio de caso de acción implementó un enfoque de instrucción basada en contenidos (CBI) para mejorar las habilidades de comprensión lectora de estudiantes de noveno grado en una escuela pública colombiana. La atención se centró en lecciones con temas de salud, evaluando su impacto en las habilidades de lectura literal, inferencial y crítica con textos informativos extensos. Durante algunas semanas se emplearon métodos cualitativos, incluida una prueba de diagnóstico, observaciones del investigador y el diario del investigador. Los resultados mostraron una mejor comprensión y un vocabulario de salud ampliado a través de debates y carteles. Sin embargo, persistieron los desafíos para resumir completamente las ideas principales, enfatizando la necesidad de un mejor procesamiento estratégico. El estudio destaca la eficacia de la CBI para reforzar las habilidades de lectura, arrojando luz sobre áreas que necesitan mejoras adicionales en el procesamiento estratégico para mejorar la memoria de trabajo y la retención de información.Publicación Acceso abierto Internship at Institución Educativa Escuela Normal Superior de Montería(2022-03-03) Flórez Medrano, Nur Isabel; Herrera Naranjo, Sol JashmedThis report describes the internship carried out at Institución Educativa Normal Superior de Montería. The purpose of this report is to highlight my experience during the internship in a public school and discuss how it enhanced my personal and professional development, as well as the knowledge about the internship after completing it. Therefore, this internship aims to provide students with knowledge and skills related to vocabulary acquisition. The goal was achieved through the implementation of the communicative language teaching approach to combine technology resources in the virtual classroom with a focus on understanding reading concerning the events of Covid-19 to facilitate synchronous asynchronous and face-to-face teaching methods. The results, conclusions, evidence, and recommendations are presented at the end of this report.Publicación Acceso abierto Internship at public institution alfonso spath spath(2022-03-03) Barrera Sierra, Juliana Milagros; Vega Calao, Yina MargaritaThis paper is intended to report my internship experience at Institución Educativa Alfonso Spath Spath (INEDAS) located in Martínez, Cereté. The purpose of the internship was to enhance and improve 4th and 5th graders’ academic performance and change their attitude towards learning English as a foreign language. In the process, vocabulary acquisition was sought and therefore the strengthening of the speaking skill which is involved in the communicating process. This report includes brief descriptions of ICTs and the use of Web 2.0 in language teaching/ learning, Communicative Language Teaching, and the Total Physical Response approach. Moreover, it targets the relevant aspects that were part of my internship process such as objectives, problems, as well as the strategies, and means used to address those. Additionally, it highlights the context, limitations, and the opinion I had before starting it while taking part in the experience and after I finish it. Also, it details the impact it had on me, and the possible recommendations for future interns.Publicación Acceso abierto Internship at saber pro examination english module preparation course(2021-09-15) Ayazo Gómez, Linda Lucía; Racero Diz, José MaríaThe current report explains the development of an internship carried out across the Saber Pro Examination English module preparation course, at Universidad de Cordoba within students of 7th, 8th and 9th semester from different undergraduate programs. The report also describes the experiences interns have during the preparation course development. The internship aims to goal the increasement of students’ performance levels obtained in the National Board Examination, throughout the implementation of Reading Comprehension strategies and Vocabulary acquisition techniques. The learning approaches whereby the content is going to be taught, are clearly specified as E-Learning and Flipped Learning, which through the development of synchronic and anachronic sessions, served as a base for instructing students about the English Module patterns and the contents explanations. The use of technological tools which let teachers create innovative content presentations and assign activities are a fundamental part to consider inside the internship process. Finally, it contains the most significant finding interns arrived after having implemented the preparation course. The interns’ deeper explanations of the experience they had during the course are reported, in order to demonstrate interns ‘professional and personal growth. Besides some conclusions, regarding the process findings, are stablished. In addition, recommendations and suggestions for future interns are given as well as the description of the limitations and challenges interns had once the preparation course ended.
