Publicación Acceso abierto A case study of english teachers’ classroom leadership skills.(2020-06-02) Villera Herrera, Karen Andrea; Pinto Lucas, Ángela María; Aguas Castillo, PedroLeadership skills have been found to create improvement in different contexts. There have been many studies inquiring about the impact of leadership in different knowledge areas. Despite that, it seems as though no studies address the role of leadership skills in teachers in the classroom. This case study describes the leadership skills of three secondary English teachers and how they use those skills in the classroom. Data includes semi-structured interviews, and focus group. Findings revealed that teachers have at least four of the five specific skills indicated in the theoretical framework. Moreover, it was disclosed that teachers use their leadership skills to stimulate students to become active learners, participate and be motivated; to create a relationship of mutual understanding, to be guidance, and reinforce cooperative learning.Publicación Acceso abierto Lifelong professional development: empowering foreign language teachers(2023-02-19) Argel Marquez, Zuleima; Narvaez Hernandez, Eliana Judith; Aguas Castillo, PedroCurrent and future teachers like us and in general all the subjects involved in the challenging world of education need to keep in mind the essential role of leadership skills and their empowerment not only in teachers but also in the students. We assume collaborative work as a key strategy to achieve real leadership skills given its high relevance to developing social and cognitive skills that reinforce the acquisition of leadership skills. This paper basically attempts to follow Matshediso’s (2008) statement which focuses mainly on teachers leadership and the way how professional training help to enhance this ability not only in teachers but also in the rest of actors involved in the process, especially the students in early cognitive stages(from birth to 9). It also provides personal assumptions about the topic and finally exposes the main implications of leadership empowerment for future teachers. Following this line, the present paper works essentially around these basic questions: 1) Why is it important to be more than a teacher - to be a leader for our students? 2) How do teacher leaders include diversity in their teaching practices? 3) How can teachers as leaders improve themselves?Publicación Acceso abierto A personal leadership statement(Universidad de Córdoba, 2024-07-20) Ávila, Daniel de; Flórez, Melanie; Aguas Castillo, Pedro PabloLeadership is essential for the proper development of society. Therefore, it is crucial to cultivate strong leadership skills among teachers, as they are responsible for effectively supporting, instructing, and mentoring future generations by providing them with both valuable knowledge and lifelong values and attitudes. This personal leadership statement will determine our approach, qualities and future practices as teacher leaders. Thus, In the paper, we will give an original response that reflects an articulation of our current leadership understanding concerning the various concepts of leadership, our assumptions about the phenomenon, collaborative work, empowerment, and implication for potential practices. The statement serves as the final assignment/learning task of the English Teaching Program course at Universidad de Córdoba. The statement represents a point of departure for community building and professional goal setting at the undergraduate level.
