Publicación Acceso abierto Condiciones familiares y escolares de los niños diagnosticados con dislexia en los grados 4° y 5° de básica primaria en la institución educativa Madre Bernarda en el municipio de Ciénaga De Oro(2018-07-26) Mestra Durango, Heidy ElianaEl presente trabajo es el resultado de una investigación cualitativa de carácter descriptivo, sobre las condiciones familiares y escolares de los niños disléxicos en los grados cuarto y quinto de la institución educativa Madre Bernarda, ubicada en el municipio de Ciénaga de Oro- Córdoba, la cual se planteó con el fin de analizar las condiciones del ambiente familiar y escolar del niño disléxico que cursa estudio en los grados 4° y 5° de básica primaria de la Institución Educativa Madre Bernarda, ubicada en el municipio de Ciénaga de Oro, de manera que se pudiera concertar con padres de familia y docentes la adecuación de dichas condiciones en ambos ambientes. Desde el punto de vista metodológico durante el desarrollo de la investigación se efectuaron una serie de visitas a la institución con el fin de hacer, en primera instancia, un diagnóstico que permitiera identificar a los niños y niñas de grado 4° y 5° de básica primaria de la Institución educativa Madre Bernarda en el municipio de Ciénaga de Oro, cuyas dificultades con la lectura y escritura se pudieran asociar con la dislexia. Para ello se aplicó un test y se realizaron varios talleres. Posteriormente se describieron las condiciones del ambiente escolar a través de una serie de observaciones y la aplicación de una entrevista a los docentes que imparten clases en 4° y 5° grado de la mencionada institución escolar, lo cual permitió establecer los conocimientos, las actitudes y las estrategias utilizadas por los docentes que ofrecen clase a los niños con dificultades lecto-escritoras. However, in public schools, it seems to be more difficult because of the lack of teacher training. As a consequence, some teachers struggle every day in mainstream schools with dyslexic students without the appropriate knowledge to teach them. In this sense, this study describes how teachers deal with this disability when teaching reading in English. The main objective of this qualitative study is to explore how an English teacher accommodates his/her teaching of reading in English to a child with dyslexia, and how multisensory activities could facilitate that process. This case study sample is a sixteen-year-old student diagnosed with dyslexia and a secondary English teacher. Data was collected through observations, interviews, stimulated recalls, and multisensory activities over one scholarly term, this data was analyzed by carrying out a thematic analysis. Findings showed that the use of multisensory activities not only helped dyslexic students overcome difficulties in reading but also increased their motivation towards English classes. Also, the teacher’s role is pivotal when preparing and accommodating his classes taking into account the student’s needs by using multisensory activities. This study supports teachers providing them with the opportunity to explore the use of a multisensory approach for teaching reading in English to dyslexic students.
