Fires are one of the problems that is affecting plant cover and that is becoming more important today, that is why the present research aims to determine the susceptibility to fires of plant cover in the subregion of Bajo Sinú in the department of Córdoba. Two procedures were implemented: the first supported in satellite remote sensing, using multiband operations and the digital classification of satellite images. The second is associated 2 with the guidelines established in the Fire Protocol of the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (IDEAM) applied to 1:100,000 scale coverage. Both in order to determine the susceptibility to fire of the plant cover. The result obtained is that through the Normalized Moisture Difference Index (NDMI) the existence of water stress that exists in the vegetation in times of drought was determined. Meanwhile, the IDEAM fire protocol resulted in a moderate, high and very high category susceptibility to plant cover in the study area. It is concluded that both procedures (calculation of the IDEAM index and methodology) determine the susceptibility to fires of the plant cover. That is why there is a need to monitor many aspects, including susceptibility to this phenomenon, which, thanks to technological advances, satellite remote sensing gives us the possibility to study this phenomenon periodically.
