The objective was to design a didactic unit for the strengthening of environmental education in the Santa Isabel Educational Institution, Puerto Escondido-Córdoba based on the previous meanings about water that students and their family environment have. As a methodology, a qualitative approach was used, used under the hermeneutic-interpretative paradigm. As results, it was found that the previous knowledge about water that the students have is based on utilitarianism and that there is a transfer of that thought from their family environment.
