Culturalmente se relaciona el ingreso a una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos con muerte, al recibir la noticia la familia entra en un estado de fragilidad y susceptibilidad donde ven un panorama negativo. la atención debe dirigirse no solo al individuo sino también al familiar, reconociendo que la enfermedad es un proceso grupal que afecta a toda la familia y que el ingreso de un enfermo representa una barrera psicológica y física en la relación familia-paciente. Tanto el paciente como la familia se ven perjudicados por el aislamiento del paciente, afectando así, el sistema familiar. Objetivo: Describir la experiencia de los familiares de los pacientes críticos al ingreso en la unidad de cuidados intensivos de una IPS de tercer nivel de complejidad, en la ciudad de montería 2023. Metodología: estudio cualitativo, descriptivo. La población de estudio fueron familiares de pacientes ingresados en la unidad de cuidados intensivos y se realizó un muestreo no probabilístico-intencional con participantes que cumplían los criterios de inclusión. Resultados: la muestra de participantes estuvo formada por individuos en edades comprendidas entre 18 a 79 años, donde todos pertenecían al género femenino; en cuanto al parentesco la mayoría eran hijas, el nivel de escolaridad predominante fue secundaria completa y en mayor porcentaje eran amas de casa residentes de la ciudad de Montería. A través del análisis de la información recopilada en las entrevistas, surgieron 5 categorías principales denominadas: entre lágrimas y esperanzas: “un viaje emocional en la unidad de cuidados intensivos" que incluye tres subcategorías: abismo emocional, serenidad en la espera, la inquietud ante el futuro incierto; aceptación y confianza en lo sobrenatural: “un vínculo sagrado en medio de la incertidumbre”, equilibrio y bienestar mental “sostenibilidad emocional y financiera”, conexiones significativas: “dinámicas familiares, sociales y relaciones interpersonales", y experiencia de la atención: “Apoyo y gestión de enfermería”. Conclusión: la experiencia de los familiares de los pacientes críticos al ingreso en la unidad de cuidados intensivos en su mayoría estuvieron acompañadas de sentimientos como el temor, angustia, preocupación e incluso estrés, sentimientos generados a partir de la incertidumbre causada por la situación de salud de su familiar, por las condiciones en que se encontraban en la sala de espera, a la expectativa de la llegada de la hora de recibir noticias y poder ver por breves minutos a su ser querido.Introduction: the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a specialized section of a hospital that provides continuous and comprehensive care to critically ill people at high risk of dying, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection. Attention must be directed not only to the individual but also to the family member, recognizing that the disease is a group process that affects the entire family, and that the admission of a patient represents a psychological and physical barrier in the family-patient relationship. Both the patient and the family are harmed by the patient's isolation, thus affecting the family system. Objective: To describe the experience of relatives of critically ill patients upon admission to the intensive care unit of a third level of complexity IPS, in the city of Monteria 2023. Methodology: Qualitative, descriptive study on the intensive care unit in the third level public IPS of the city of Monteria. The study population was relatives of patients admitted to the intensive care unit and non-probabilistic-intentional sampling was carried out with participants who met the inclusion criteria. Results: The sample of participants was made up of individuals between the ages of 18 and 79, where all belonged to the female gender; As for relationship, the majority were daughters. The predominant level of schooling was complete secondary school and the majority were housewives residing in the city of Montería. Through the analysis of the information collected in the interviews, 5 main categories emerged called: between tears and hopes: "an emotional journey in the intensive care unit" that includes three subcategories: emotional abyss, serenity in waiting, concern before the uncertain future; acceptance and trust in the supernatural: "a sacred bond in the midst of uncertainty", balance and mental well-being "emotional and financial sustainability", meaningful connections: "family dynamics, social and interpersonal relationships", and experience of attention: “Nursing support and management”.
