Materiales y métodos. Se realizó un estudio cualitativo que utilizó herramientas del diseño fenomenológico, para el análisis de los datos. Este estudio utilizó un muestreo con propósito a través de la estrategia bola de nieve, y se realizaron entrevistas a profundidad a cinco profesionales de enfermería con experiencia laboral en unidades de cuidado intensivo neonatal de la cuidad de Montería. Resultados. Este estudio develó una categoría central denominada: El duelo del profesional de enfermería: Una respuesta humana a la muerte neonatal. De esta categoría central emergen tres subcategorías así: Experiencia del duelo ante la muerte de un neonato; un antes y un después del cuidado; gestión de los sentimientos y, por último, Invisibilización del duelo. Conclusiones. Develar las experiencias de manejo del duelo en las enfermeras ante la muerte de un neonato revela emociones intensas como tristeza e impotencia, afectando su bienestar personal y profesional. Estrategias como el apoyo emocional, la reflexión personal y recursos institucionales son esenciales para manejar el duelo. El apoyo institucional y la formación continua son cruciales para prevenir el agotamiento emocional y mejorar la calidad del cuidado neonatal. Reconocer y apoyar estas experiencias es vital para el bienestar integral de las enfermeras y la calidad del cuidado brindado. Palabras clave. Materials and methods: A qualitative study was carried out that used phenomenological design tools for data analysis. This study used purposeful sampling through the snowball strategy, and in-depth interviews were conducted with five nursing professionals with work experience in neonatal intensive care units in the city of Montería. Results: This study revealed a central category called: Nursing Professional Bereavement: A Human Response to Neonatal Death. Three themes emerge from this research: The first experience of grief in the face of the death of a newborn, a before and after care, Management of feelings, Invisibilization of grief. Conclusions. Reveal de the experience of grief management in the nursing professional in response to the death of a hospitalized newborn reveal intense feelings like sadness helplessness, affecting their professional and personal well-being. Strategies like emotional support, personal reflection, and institutional resources are essential to managing grief or bravement. The institutional support and education are crucial to prevent emotional exhaustion and improve the quality of neonatal care. Recognizing and supporting these experiences are vital to the well-being of nurses and the quality of the care provided.
