Fueron evaluados 16 cerdos de la raza Landrace x Pietran, saludables, con peso promedio de 20 kilogramos e indistintos del sexo, solo con la condición de estar herniados. Los animales fueron donados por el programa productivo de Porcicultura de la Universidad de Córdoba-Colombia. Para la intervención quirúrgica, se hizo una adaptación de la técnica de River y Sttopa con colocación del PVC en el espacio pre-peritoneal. Las muestras fueron tomadas a los ocho, 16, 32 y 60 días; para lo que fue necesario la eutanasia de cuatro pacientes por fecha de evaluación. Las muestras para el estudio histológico fueron procesadas por la técnica de Hematoxilina-Eosina (H-E) en el laboratorio de patología animal y se observó que la producción de colágeno tuvo comportamiento de curva parábola, porque se dieron fases de crecimiento, pico, estabilización y disminución; siendo el día 16 la fecha de mayor expresión con estabilización hacia el día 32. Se puede inferir que la bolsa de PVC fue biocompatible y que la respuesta biológica del tejido hospedero se dió normalmente ya que no se identificaron células gigantes en las muestras de peritoneo parietal y hubo crecimiento de tejido no metaplásico. Además; las fases de la cicatrización, estuvieron dentro del tiempo fisiológico con respuesta dentro de lo normal, porque no se evidenció producción exagerada de fluidos, presencia de PMN en fase aguda, ni producción elevada de células de fase inflamatoria crónica como linfocitos y macrófagos (leucocitos mononucleados).The objective of the present work was to evaluate the parietal peritoneum of pigs post-correction of umbilical hernias histologically and histomorphometrically using PVC as an implant. Sixteen healthy pigs of the Landrace x Pietran breed, with an average weight of 20 kilograms and regardless of sex, were evaluated only with the condition of being herniated. The animals were donated by the pig production program of the University of Córdoba-Colombia. For the surgical intervention, an adaptation of the River and Sttopa technique was made with placement of the PVC in the pre-peritoneal space. The samples were taken at eight, sixteen, thirty two and sixty days; for which the euthanasia of four patients by evaluation date was necessary. The samples for the histological study were processed by the Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) technique in the animal pathology laboratory and it was observed that the production of collagen behaved like a parabola curve, because growth, peak, stabilization and decrease phases occurred; day sixteen being the date of greatest expression with stabilization towards day thirty two. It can be inferred that the PVC bag was biocompatible and that the biological response of the host tissue was normally given since no giant cells were identified in the parietal peritoneum samples and there was growth of non-metaplastic tissue.
